SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Christos K. Hountalas of Aurora, who
passed away on October 16, 2008; and
WHEREAS, Chris Hountalas was born in Kandyla, Tripolis,
Greece on April 15, 1924; he was the son of the late
Konstandinos and Eleni Hountalas; and
WHEREAS, Chris Hountalas served in the first established
Greek army following World War II, where he fought against
Communist forces during the Greek Civil War; he was later
appointed an evzone (King's honor guard), one of two selected
out of 1500, where he guarded the tomb of the Unknown Soldier;
and
WHEREAS, Chris Hountalas immigrated to the United States,
where he married his sweetheart, Harriet Koulos, on April 27,
1952; and
WHEREAS, Chris Hountalas worked for Krohler Manufacturing
from 1952 to 1966 and Sealmaster from 1966 until his retirement
in 1991; and
WHEREAS, Chris Hountalas was one of the founders of the St.

Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church in Aurora in 1966; he served
several years on the church's parish council and building
committee when the church was built in its present location in
1979; and
WHEREAS, Chris Hountalas was a regular at the City Golf
Courses, a game he took up at age 67, playing 4 times a week and
walking all 18 holes; and
WHEREAS, Chris Hountalas is survived by his cherished
spouse and partner of 56 years, Harriet; his loving children,
the Reverend Dean (Olga), Spiro (Eleni), and Elaine (Brien)
McHale; his adored grandchildren, Chris, Steven, Christos, and
Sophia Hountalas and Brien, Siobhan, Sean, and Kevan McHale;
his sister, Christine Boulias; and his several cousins,
nephews, and nieces; and
WHEREAS, Chris Hountalas will be remembered by all who knew
and loved him as a man who loved life and had a knack for
bringing a smile to everyone around him; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
his family and friends, the passing of Christos K. Hountalas;
and be it further

presented to the family of Chris Hountalas as an expression of
our sympathy.
