WHEREAS, The life of a renowned football coach drew to a close | ||
with the passing of David Brian Brazil of Carrollton on July 5, | ||
2023, at the age of 58; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born in Pasadena, Texas, on July 15, 1964, Brian | ||
Brazil was the son of Charlie and Mary Lue Brazil; a graduate of Sam | ||
Rayburn High School, he earned All-Southwest Conference football | ||
honors at Texas Christian University before going on to join the | ||
Houston Oilers as an NFL free agent; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Brazil began his coaching career in 1988 at | ||
Shepton High School in Plano; the following year, he became an | ||
assistant football coach at R. L. Turner High School in Carrollton, | ||
and in 1992, he launched a seven-year tenure at Lewisville High | ||
School, serving as a defensive assistant and then defensive | ||
coordinator while helping the team win two state gridiron titles; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, In 1999, Coach Brazil was selected as the inaugural | ||
head football coach at Hebron High School in Carrollton; under his | ||
leadership, the Hawks were crowned as the unbeaten 4A Division 2 | ||
state champions in 2005, only their sixth season of competition, | ||
and they ultimately reached the playoffs 16 times; the school's | ||
stadium is set to be named in honor of this coaching great who | ||
garnered Texas High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year | ||
and Tom Landry Awards and entered the THSCA Hall of Honor; after | ||
retiring in 2022, he became senior athletic director at Prestonwood | ||
Christian Academy; and | ||
WHEREAS, Coach Brazil was blessed with the love and support | ||
of his wife of 34 years, Birdie, and he took tremendous pride in his | ||
three children, Danielle, Gabrielle, and David, and his two | ||
grandchildren; a man of faith, he served as a deacon and student | ||
ministry Bible study teacher at Prestonwood Baptist Church; and | ||
WHEREAS, While the death of Brian Brazil brings great sadness | ||
to his family and friends, he leaves behind a gridiron coaching | ||
legacy that will long be remembered; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory | ||
of David Brian Brazil and extend deepest condolences to the members | ||
of his family: to his wife, Birdie Brazil; to his children, Danielle | ||
Mitchem and her husband, Tyler, Gabby Brazil, and David Brazil and | ||
his wife, Lexie; to his grandchildren, Logan and Maverick Mitchem; | ||
to his father, Charlie Brazil; to his siblings, Donna Jackson and | ||
her husband, Jeff, and John Brazil and his wife, Laura; and to his | ||
many other relatives and friends; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Brian | ||
Brazil. | ||
