WHEREAS, Marilyn Hinton concluded her terms as the Place 6 | ||
representative on the Plano Independent School District Board of | ||
Trustees in 2017, following eight years of notable service; and | ||
WHEREAS, Ms. Hinton was first elected to the board in 2009, | ||
and during her tenure she worked closely with parents, teachers, | ||
administrators, and other concerned citizens to foster a supportive | ||
and challenging environment at district schools; she further | ||
distinguished herself through her role as secretary of the board; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, A resident of Plano since 1994, Ms. Hinton holds a | ||
bachelor's degree in speech and drama from Fisk University and a | ||
master's degree in education from Howard University; she has long | ||
been a vital asset to the district, previously working as a teacher | ||
for the Head Start program at Meadows Elementary School and | ||
volunteering as a member of the Plano ISD Diversity Advisory | ||
Committee and two school-based improvement committees; in | ||
addition, she has served as a visiting scholar at Brookhaven | ||
College, a counselor and adjunct professor at Richland College, and | ||
a youth director at a nonprofit agency for homeless and | ||
transitional families; and | ||
WHEREAS, This esteemed educator is also a graduate of | ||
Leadership Plano, and she has served on the boards of The Samaritan | ||
Inn, the Plano Metro Rotary Club, and Character.org; moreover, she | ||
has held membership with the Plano Symphony Orchestra Virtuoso | ||
Society and Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and served as a | ||
volunteer with the Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County and | ||
as a Sunday school teacher; in recognition of her many | ||
contributions to her community, she was presented with a 2012 Women | ||
of Excellence Award by the Plano Community Forum; she is supported | ||
in all her endeavors by the love and encouragement of her husband, | ||
Jim, and their two daughters; and | ||
WHEREAS, The people of Plano have benefited immeasurably from | ||
Marilyn Hinton's vision and leadership, and her fine work has | ||
helped provide countless local students with a strong academic | ||
foundation on which to build a bright and prosperous future; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Marilyn Hinton on | ||
her service as a member of the Plano Independent School District | ||
Board of Trustees and extend to her sincere best wishes for the | ||
future; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Ms. Hinton as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. | ||
