HOUSE BILL 2371

 

 

 

AN ACT

 

appropriating monies to the department of public safety.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Appropriation; department of public safety; DNA analysis instruments; training; reports

A.  In addition to any other appropriations made in fiscal year 2020‑2021, the sum of $1,200,000 and 3 FTE positions are appropriated from the state general fund in fiscal year 2020-2021 to the department of public safety to:

1.  Purchase and deploy four DNA analysis instruments throughout this state.

2.  Subject to the availability of monies and on the request of a county sheriff, train that county sheriff's personnel on properly using the DNA analysis instruments.

B.  On or before October 15, 2020, January 15, 2021, April 15, 2021 and July 15, 2021, the director of the department of public safety shall submit a report to the chairpersons of the judiciary committee and the public safety committee of the house of representatives and the judiciary committee and the transportation and public safety committee of the senate, or their successors committees, containing at least the following information relating to the instruments and training prescribed by this section:

1.  The number of rapid DNA analyses performed by the department and county sheriffs.  For the purposes of this paragraph, "rapid DNA analysis" means a DNA analysis completed within five calendar days after the collection of the DNA sample.

2.  The number of criminal suspects identified or matched by DNA analysis to the combined DNA index system.

3.  The total number and types of crimes identified or matched by DNA analysis.
