CHAPTER 78

Relative to Citrus Stride Day.

WHEREAS, The California Food Insecurity Rate is 11.7% and one out of every eight Californians does not know where their next meal will come from; and
WHEREAS, Approximately 1.7 million children in California are experiencing food insecurity, placing California at the 20th highest child food insecurity rate in the nation; and
WHEREAS, California’s citrus growers donate several million pounds of citrus to California community food banks each year to help fight the war against hunger; and
WHEREAS, On May 15, 2019, the California citrus industry will host the 4th Annual Citrus Stride, a one-mile walk around the State Capitol to raise awareness about hunger and food insecurity in our communities; and
WHEREAS, For every participant, the citrus industry pledges to donate 1,000 pounds of fresh citrus fruit to California food banks; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, That the Legislature recognizes that hunger is an issue affecting too many Californians and commends the California citrus industry for its effort to raise awareness about food insecurity by observing May 15, 2019, as Citrus Stride Day at the State Capitol; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
