HR 64, as introduced, Smith.

WHEREAS, Our great state strives to promote the values of equality and justice, and to protect human and civil rights for all people; and
WHEREAS, Taiwan has been a leader in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community rights, and spearheaded a powerful campaign to become the first in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage; and
WHEREAS, Taiwan has fostered understanding and engagement through its annual gay pride parade in Taipei, attracting members throughout the international LGBTQ community; and
WHEREAS, Globally, same-sex marriage remains unrecognized; and
WHEREAS, LGBTQ people face longstanding discrimination, harassment, legal punishment, violence, and other atrocities around the world; and
WHEREAS, California strives to be a strong champion for the LGBTQ community, and has shown support and commitment to the struggles of the LGBTQ community at home and abroad; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the Assembly respectfully urges the universal legal recognition of same-sex marriage and recognition of human and civil rights for the LGBTQ community around the world; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
