    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to a special election; providing for a
    3         special election to be held on August 18, 2020,
    4         pursuant to Section 5, Article XI of the State
    5         Constitution, for the approval or rejection by the
    6         electors of this state of amendments to the State
    7         Constitution, proposed by joint resolution, relating
    8         to an ad valorem tax discount for spouses of certain
    9         deceased veterans who had permanent, combat-related
   10         disabilities, the transfer of the ad valorem tax
   11         discount to another permanent residence of the
   12         surviving spouse under specified conditions, and an
   13         effective date if such amendments are adopted;
   14         providing for publication of notice and election
   15         procedures; providing a contingent effective date.

   17  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   18  
   19         Section 1. Pursuant to Section 5, Article XI of the State
   20  Constitution, there shall be a special election on August 18,
   21  2020, to be held concurrently with other statewide elections
   22  held on that date, if any, at which there shall be submitted to
   23  the electors of this state for approval or rejection the
   24  amendments to the State Constitution proposed in Senate Joint
   25  Resolution 1076, 2020 Regular Session, or a similar joint
   26  resolution having substantially the same specific intent and
   27  purpose.
   28         Section 2. Publication of notice shall be in accordance
   29  with Section 5, Article XI of the State Constitution. The
   30  special election shall be held in the same manner in which other
   31  special elections are held.
   32         Section 3. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law,
   33  if enacted by a vote of at least three-fourths of the membership
   34  of each house of the Legislature and if Senate Joint Resolution
   35  1076, 2020 Regular Session, or a similar joint resolution having
   36  substantially the same specific intent and purpose, is adopted
   37  by both houses of the Legislature.
