A RESOLUTION


Recognizing the Annual Smoke on the Water BBQ and Bluegrass Festival as a Georgia State BBQ Championship competition; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the 2nd Annual Smoke on the Water BBQ and Bluegrass Festival will be held on April 3rd and 4th, 2009 beside the beautiful Bickley's Lake in Thomaston, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, the Smoke on the Water BBQ and Bluegrass Festival is a registered contest of the Florida Barbecue Association, a prestigious recognition that elevates the Thomaston BBQ cooking event to a select group of contests held throughout the United States; and

WHEREAS, this significant Georgia event is designed to generate funds for the Thomaston-Upson community's Local Volunteer Fire Departments and the Harbor House which temporarily houses children who have been removed from their home; and

WHEREAS, the Annual Smoke on the Water BBQ and Bluegrass Festival not only provides a competitive BBQ cook-off with some of the most delicious barbecue in the nation but also hosts a wealth of family activities including live music and entertainment, arts and crafts, and great family fun for all ages; and

WHEREAS, this festival is an immensely popular event that attracts competitors, judges, vendors, musicians, artists, and tourists from all parts of Georgia as well as throughout the United States; and

WHEREAS, the Annual Smoke on the Water BBQ and Bluegrass Festival provides superior cuisine and wholesome family entertainment while also giving tremendous support to Georgia's local communities and it is only fitting and proper that this event be officially recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the Annual Smoke on the Water BBQ and Bluegrass Festival is hereby recognized as a Georgia State BBQ Championship competition.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Smoke on the Water BBQ and Bluegrass Festival and the Mayor of the City of Thomaston.
