A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to the maui food innovation center.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The new $7,000,000 Maui food innovation center at the University of Hawaii Maui college is scheduled for completion in fall 2019.  To date, the center has completed the training of four cohorts of students and several graduates have developed successful new food products.  The center requires permanent full-time faculty and educational supplies to develop and teach workforce development education and training programs.

SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $225,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2019-2020 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2020-2021 for three full-time equivalent (3.0 FTE) permanent positions and operating funds for the Maui food innovation center at the University of Hawaii Maui college.  The appropriations shall be for and allocated as follows:

(1)  $75,000 for one full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) eleven-month faculty food product research and development instructor;

(2)  $75,000 for one full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) eleven-month faculty food manufacturing instructor;

(3)  $50,000 for one full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) facility coordinator; and

(4)  $25,000 for educational supplies necessary to develop and teach workforce development education and training programs.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the University of Hawaii Maui college for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2019.
