A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO ABANDONED VEHICLES.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Section 290-45, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended to read as follows:

     "§290-45  Penalties.  (a)  Whoever violates any of the provisions of this chapter or any lawful rule adopted by the director of finance under authority of this chapter, for the violation of which no penalty is provided by law, shall be fined not less than $150 nor more than $500.

     (b)  Any county that fails to comply with any of the provisions of this chapter or any lawful rule adopted by the director of finance under authority of this chapter shall be fined by the department of taxation not less than $150 nor more than $500.  All fines collected under this subsection by the department of taxation shall be deposited into the general fund."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2019.

Description:

Establishes fines for any county that fails to comply with any provision of Hawaii's abandoned vehicles law or any lawful rule adopted by the Director of Finance under the authority of the law.  Requires the Department of Taxation to collect and deposit the fines into the general fund.
