HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

REcognizing april 19 THROUGH 25, 2020, AND APRIL 18 THROUGH 24, 2021, AS Volunteer week hAWAII in the State.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, National Volunteer Week was first designated by Presidential Proclamation 4288 issued by President Richard Nixon in 1974 to recognize and encourage people to engage in their community through volunteer service; and

 

     WHEREAS, National Volunteer Week takes place annually during the month of April and works to inspire, equip, and mobilize people to take actions that can change the world; and

 

     WHEREAS, individuals and communities are at the center of social change, discovering their power to make a difference; and

 

     WHEREAS, during National Volunteer Week, April 19 through 25, 2020, and April 18 through 24, 2021, service projects will be performed across America and volunteers will be recognized for their commitment to service; and

 

     WHEREAS, the giving of oneself in service to another empowers the giver and the recipient, and the experience of volunteering teaches individuals that government, by itself, cannot solve all the issues affecting the United States; and

 

     WHEREAS, the United States' volunteer force of over 63,000,000 individuals is a great treasure and those who volunteer play a vital role in their communities and in the United States' future as a caring and productive nation; and

 

     WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii has recognized National Volunteer Week in both 2018 and 2019 with statewide participation; and

     WHEREAS, it is appropriate that April 19 through 25, 2020, and April 18 through 24, 2021, be recognized as Volunteer Week Hawaii in the State, in conjunction with the observance of National Volunteer Week; and

 

     WHEREAS, establishing Volunteer Week Hawaii in the State will stimulate volunteerism and the spirit of giving during National Volunteer Week and will create a greater call to action that encourages residents to spread the philanthropic spirit; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirtieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2019, that this body recognizes April 19 through 25, 2020, and April 18 through 24, 2021, as Volunteer Week Hawaii in the State, in conjunction with the observance of National Volunteer Week; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor.
