HOUSE RESOLUTION
Honoring and Commending THE North Shore Community Land Trust for THEIR Contributions to Land Conservation.
WHEREAS, the House of Representatives takes great pride in recognizing outstanding organizations such as the NORTH SHORE COMMUNITY LAND TRUST that work to preserve some of our most precious lands on the North Shore of Oahu through voluntary land conservation easements; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1997, NORTH SHORE COMMUNITY LAND TRUST's mission is to “protect, steward, and enhance the natural landscapes, cultural heritage, and rural character of ahupua‘a, from Kahuku Point to Ka‘ena”; NORTH SHORE COMMUNITY LAND TRUST's aim is not only to save and restore these coastal regions, agricultural lands, watersheds, and forests, but also to achieve the delicate balance between development and conservation; and
WHEREAS, using funds from private donors and matching funds from state and federal agencies, NORTH SHORE COMMUNITY LAND TRUST successfully protects valuable tracts of land from development, makes them available for the public benefit, and drives community planning and restoration projects; in recent years, it has preserved approximately 1,200 acres at Pupukea Paumalu, 27 acres at Sunset Ranch, approximately 1,000 acres at Turtle Bay, and was instrumental in saving Waimea Valley as a public resource, in perpetuity; and
WHEREAS, in light of its efforts to safeguard viability of wildlife habitats, public recreation areas, farms, and ranches, NORTH SHORE COMMUNITY LAND TRUST deserves special recognition for their success and continuing advocacy to preserve the natural beauty of the North Shore of Oahu; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirtieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2019, that this body hereby honors and commends NORTH SHORE COMMUNITY LAND TRUST for their tireless efforts and dedication to securing valuable North Shore lands for the benefit of generations yet to come, and extends its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
