HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

requesting the department of land and natural resources to conspicuously post clearly legible signs at each public park or beach within the area of Oahu bounded by Kalaeloa and Makaha that display the telephone numbers or hotline numbers of any county or state agency that provides assistance to homeless persons.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, homelessness continues to be a pervasive issue in the State; and

 

     WHEREAS, the 2018 Oahu Homeless Point-in-Time count revealed that the total number of unsheletered homeless individuals on Oahu is 2,145; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Waianae Coast has been particularly affected by homelessness with twenty percent of all unsheltered homeless individuals and sixty percent of all unsheltered homeless family individuals on Oahu being located along the Waianae Coast; and

 

     WHEREAS, the State and the City and County of Honolulu both provide various services to assist homeless individuals; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirtieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2019, that the Department of Land and Natural Resources, in consultation with the Department of Human Services, is requested to conspicuously post clearly legible signs at each public park or beach within the area of Oahu bounded by Kalaeloa and Makaha that display the telephone numbers or hotline numbers of any county or state agency that provides assistance to homeless persons; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Land and Natural Resources and the Director of Human Services.
