A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO THE PUNA DISTANCE LEARNING CENTER.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds for a Hawaii community college distance learning center located in the Puna district to provide greater access to post-secondary education in the Puna district.
SECTION 2. The university of Hawaii shall submit a report on the Hawaii community college distance learning center located in the Puna district, including the status of the center, budget needs, challenges, and any proposed legislation, to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the regular session of 2020.
SECTION 3. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2019-2020 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2020-2021 to establish a Hawaii community college distance learning center to be located in the Puna district to provide greater access to post-secondary education in the Puna district; provided that this appropriation shall be allocated as follows:
(1) $ for four full-time equivalent (4.0 FTE) positions;
(2) $ for a feasibility study for planning, land acquisition, design, construction, and equipment; and
(3) $ for current operating expenses, including utilities, supplies, advertising, training, office equipment rental, lease, and classroom equipment.
The sums appropriated shall be expended by the university of Hawaii for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2052.
