A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR STATE LIFEGUARDS.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Lifeguards serve an essential function in a state surrounded by ocean waters.  Lifeguards rescue potential drowning victims, administer first aid, and teach water safety.  Lifeguards allow the public to enjoy the natural beauty of Hawaii's waters and contribute to Hawaii's reputation as a desirable place to live and visit.

     Currently, the island of Hawaii does not have state-funded lifeguards at Kua Bay, Kekaha Kai state park.

     The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds for lifeguards at Kua Bay, Kekaha Kai state park, island of Hawaii, an area under the jurisdiction of the department of land and natural resources.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $           or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2019-2020 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2020-2021 for salaries, benefits, equipment, and other related expenses, to employ lifeguards for Kua Bay, Kekaha Kai state park, island of Hawaii.

     The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of land and natural resources for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2050.
