SENATE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

REQUESTING THE COUNTIES TO TAKE necessary MEASURES TO REMOVE ABANDONED VEHICLES FROM PUBLIC ROADS WITHIN TEN DAYS OF ABANDONMENT.

 

 


     WHEREAS, many vehicles are abandoned on public roads and remain there for extended periods of time; and

 

     WHEREAS, vehicles abandoned on public roads often occupy parking spaces that could be used by other drivers; and

 

     WHEREAS, vehicles abandoned on public roads are a nuisance to the public and an eyesore; and

 

     WHEREAS, vehicles abandoned on public roads may pose a danger to public safety; and

 

     WHEREAS, pursuant to section 290-1, Hawaii Revised Statutes, the counties are required to cause vehicles that have been abandoned to be taken into custody within ten business days of abandonment; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirtieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2019, the House of Representatives concurring, that the counties are requested to take necessary measures to remove abandoned vehicles from public roads within ten days of abandonment; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the mayor of each county and the chair of each county council.
