SENATE RESOLUTION

Requesting state employers to capitalize upon the potential of the Student Intern (Professional) I & II Program to prepare Hawaii's collegiate students for employment with the State.

WHEREAS, the Student Intern (Professional) I & II Program, which was launched in 2008, allows undergraduate junior and senior level students to gain experience in state government employment by working during breaks in the academic calendar and upon graduation; and

WHEREAS, the State seeks to facilitate workforce development and construct school-to-employment pipelines by matching candidate skill sets to employer demands; and

WHEREAS, high vacancy rates continue to trouble state employers, with agencies frequently reporting hundreds of vacant positions; and

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirtieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2019, that state employers are requested to capitalize upon the potential of the Student Intern (Professional) I & II Program to prepare Hawaii's collegiate students for employment with the State; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor; Comptroller; Chairperson of the Board of Agriculture; Attorney General; Director of Finance; Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism; Director of Commerce and Consumer Affairs; Chairperson of the Board of Education; Superintendent of Education; Chairperson of the Hawaiian Homes Commission; Director of Health; Director of Human Resources Development; Director of Human Services; Director of Labor and Industrial Relations; Chairperson of the Board of Land and Natural Resources; Director of Public Safety; Director of Taxation; Director of Transportation; and Chief Justice.
