THE SENATE

S.R. NO.

66

TWENTY-SEVENTH LEGISLATURE, 2013

STATE OF HAWAII

SENATE RESOLUTION

urging the governor to strive to achieve or maintain gender equity in the nominations and appointments of members to state boards and commissions.

WHEREAS, this body finds that there is a lack of gender equity on boards and commissions across the State; and

WHEREAS, boards and commissions can benefit from balanced perspectives and can minimize biases that may occur with memberships that lack gender equity; and

WHEREAS, service on some boards and commissions can serve as stepping stones to more influential political posts, in which case equal opportunities should be provided to all qualified individuals to serve on boards and commissions; and

WHEREAS, this body finds that the Governor can assist in promoting this cause, as the Governor has the power to appoint members of many boards and commissions; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2013, that the Governor, in making nominations and appointments to boards and commissions, is requested to strive to achieve and maintain gender equity in the composition of state boards and commissions; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor.
