H.F. 433 Section 1. NEW SECTION . 280.31 Field trips and school 1 activities at the capitol building —— written consent regarding 2 pistols and revolvers. 3 The board of directors of a school district and the 4 authorities in charge of a nonpublic school shall establish a 5 policy requiring that when written consent is obtained from a 6 parent or guardian of a student for the student to participate 7 in a field trip or school activity that will take place in the 8 capitol building or on the grounds surrounding the capitol 9 building, the consent form shall include language informing 10 parents and guardians that pistols or revolvers may be lawfully 11 carried, transported, or possessed in the capitol building and 12 on the grounds surrounding the capitol building pursuant to 13 section 8A.322, subsection 3. 14 EXPLANATION 15 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 16 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 17 This bill requires school boards and authorities in charge 18 of nonpublic schools to establish policies requiring that 19 when written consent is obtained from a parent or guardian of 20 a student for the student to participate in a field trip or 21 school activity that will take place in the capitol building or 22 on the grounds surrounding the capitol building, the consent 23 form must include language informing parents and guardians that 24 pistols or revolvers may be lawfully carried, transported, 25 or possessed in the capitol building and on the grounds 26 surrounding the capitol building pursuant to state law. 27 -1- LSB 2405YH (2) 88 je/jh 1/ 1
