H.F. 614 Section 1. NEW SECTION . 279.21A Administrators —— large 1 districts —— teaching experience. 2 Each administrator employed by the board of directors 3 of a school district with an enrollment of two thousand 4 five hundred or more students in the prior school year, as 5 determined by the department of education, must have at least 6 ten years of teaching experience. Such a school district 7 shall not renew an administrator’s contract beyond the current 8 year unless the administrator meets the requirements of this 9 section. For purposes of this section, “administrator” means an 10 individual holding a professional administrator license issued 11 under chapter 272 who is employed in a school district as a 12 superintendent under section 279.20 or a principal as defined 13 in section 279.21, subsection 3. 14 EXPLANATION 15 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 16 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 17 This bill requires administrators employed by school 18 districts with enrollments of 2,500 or more to have at least 19 10 years of teaching experience. Such a school district is 20 prohibited from renewing an administrator’s contract if the 21 administrator fails to meet the requirement. 22 “Administrator” is defined as an individual holding a 23 professional administrator license who is employed in a school 24 district as a superintendent, principal, associate principal, 25 or assistant principal. 26 -1- LSB 2523YH (2) 88 kh/jh 1/ 1
