Bill Title: Amends the Illinois Fire Protection Training Act. Provides that the Office of the State Fire Marshal shall maintain on its website a link to an educational program or literature for fire fighters in the history of the fire service labor movement. Provides that the training shall be completed by each fire fighter. Provides that entities responsible for the training of fire fighters may request that such educational program be presented in person by a statewide organization representing professional union fire fighters in the State. Defines "fire fighter". Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT concerning local government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Illinois Fire Protection Training Act is
5amended by changing Section 8 as follows:
6 (50 ILCS 740/8) (from Ch. 85, par. 538)
7 Sec. 8. Rules and minimum standards for schools. The Office
8shall adopt rules and minimum standards for such schools which
9shall include but not be limited to the following:
10 a. Minimum courses of study, resources, facilities,
11 apparatus, equipment, reference material, established
12 records and procedures as determined by the Office.
13 b. Minimum requirements for instructors.
14 c. Minimum basic training requirements, which a
15 trainee must satisfactorily complete before being eligible
16 for permanent employment as a fire fighter in the fire
17 department of a participating local governmental agency.
18 Those requirements shall include training in first aid
19 (including cardiopulmonary resuscitation), and training in
20 the administration of opioid antagonists as defined in
21 paragraph (1) of subsection (e) of Section 5-23 of the
22 Substance Use Disorder Act, and for firefighters hired
23 under Division 2.1 of Article 10 of the Illinois Municipal

1 Code, under Section 10-1-7.1 of the Illinois Municipal
2 Code, or under Section 16.06b of the Fire Protection
3 District Act, training in the history of the fire service
4 labor movement using curriculum provided by a statewide
5 organization representing professional union firefighters
6 in the State. The organization may also provide
7 instructors.

9 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
