Bill Title: Amends the General Assembly Operations Act. Provides that the Speaker of the House of Representatives shall not convene the House of Representatives in regular or perfunctory session after 4:00 p.m. on the day before Memorial Day or before 4:00 p.m. on Memorial Day. Provides that on a regular session day reasonably close to Memorial Day, the Speaker of the House of Representatives shall include in the business on the Daily Calendar for the House of Representatives for that session a remembrance ceremony for Memorial Day.

SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
25 ILCS 10/20 new

Amends the General Assembly Operations Act. Provides that the Speaker of the House of Representatives shall not convene the House of Representatives in regular or perfunctory session after 4:00 p.m. on the day before Memorial Day or before 4:00 p.m. on Memorial Day. Provides that on a regular session day reasonably close to Memorial Day, the Speaker of the House of Representatives shall include in the business on the Daily Calendar for the House of Representatives for that session a remembrance ceremony for Memorial Day.

1 AN ACT concerning State government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The General Assembly Operations Act is amended
5by adding Section 20 as follows:
6 (25 ILCS 10/20 new)
7 Sec. 20. House of Representatives; Memorial Day.
8 (a) Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary,
9the Speaker of the House of Representatives shall not convene
10the House of Representatives in regular or perfunctory session
11after 4:00 p.m. on the day before Memorial Day or before 4:00
12p.m. on Memorial Day.
13 (b) On a regular session day reasonably close to Memorial
14Day, the Speaker of the House of Representatives shall include
15in the business on the Daily Calendar for the House of
16Representatives for that session a remembrance ceremony for
17Memorial Day to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in
18defense of our nation.
