HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
2 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
3HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
4SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that the Special Commission on
5Gynecologic Cancers is created; and be it further
6 RESOLVED, That membership of the Commission shall be as
7follows:
8 (1) A representative of the Illinois Comprehensive
9Cancer Control Program, appointed by the Director of the
10Illinois Department of Public Health;
11 (2) The Director of the Illinois Department of
12Insurance, or his or her designee; and
13 (3) 14 members who shall be appointed as follows:
14 (a) Three members appointed by the Speaker of the
15House of Representatives, one of whom shall be a survivor of
16ovarian cancer, one of whom shall be a survivor of cervical,
17vaginal, vulvar, or uterine cancer, and one of whom shall be a
18medical specialist in gynecological cancers;
19 (b) Three members appointed by the Senate
20President, one of whom shall be a survivor of ovarian cancer,
21one of whom shall be a survivor of cervical, vaginal, vulvar,
22or uterine cancer, and one of whom shall be a medical
23specialist in gynecological cancers; and
24 (c) Eight members appointed by the Governor, one of

1whom shall be a caregiver of a woman diagnosed with a
2gynecologic cancer, one of whom shall be a medical specialist
3in gynecological cancers, one of whom shall be an individual
4with expertise in community based health care and issues
5affecting underserved and vulnerable populations, two of whom
6shall be individuals representing gynecologic cancer awareness
7and support groups in the State, one of whom shall be a
8researcher specializing in gynecologic cancers, and two of whom
9shall be members of the public with demonstrated expertise in
10issues relating to the work of the commission; and be it
11further
12 RESOLVED, That members of the Commission shall serve
13without compensation or reimbursement from the commission;
14members shall select a Chair from among themselves and the
15Chair shall set the meeting schedule; and be it further
16 RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Public Health
17shall provide administrative support; and be it further
18 RESOLVED, That the Commission is charged with the study of
19the following:
20 (1) Establishing a mechanism to ascertain the
21prevalence of gynecologic cancers in the State and, to the
22extent possible, to collect statistics relative to the timing
23of diagnosis and risk factors associated with gynecologic

1cancers;
2 (2) Determining how to best effectuate early diagnosis
3and treatment for gynecologic cancer patients;
4 (3) Determining best practices for closing disparities
5in outcomes for gynecologic cancer patients and innovative
6approaches to reaching underserved and vulnerable populations;
7 (4) Determining any unmet needs of persons with
8gynecologic cancers and those of their families; and
9 (5) Providing recommendations for additional
10legislation, support programs, and resources to meet the unmet
11needs of persons with gynecologic cancers and their families;
12and be it further
13 RESOLVED, That the Commission shall provide its final
14report to the Illinois General Assembly no later than December
1531, 2020, and upon the filing of its report, is dissolved; and
16be it further
17 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
18delivered to the Director of the Illinois Department of Public
19Health, the Director of the Illinois Department of Insurance,
20the Speaker of the House, the President of the Senate, and the
21Governor.
