HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives wish to congratulate the Providence St. Mel
High School boys basketball team, the Knights, on winning the
2019 Illinois High School Association Class 1A State
Championship; and
WHEREAS, The Knights defeated Cissna Park by a score of 52
to 29 at Carver Arena in Peoria on March 9, 2019; and
WHEREAS, The Knights compiled a season record of 30 wins
and six losses on the way to their championship; and
WHEREAS, The Knights previously won the state championship
in 1985; and
WHEREAS, The Knights are coached by Head Coach Tim Ervin;
the assistant coaches are Corey Allen, Eric Marshall, Reggie
Murray, Andre Williams, and Sam Smith; the managers are Samuel
Sutton and Tau Kennebrew; and
WHEREAS, The Knights are Tim Ervin II, Eric Jordan, Titus
Ervin, Jordan Green, Jason Mason, Deion Jackson, Tyriel Nelson,
Corey Brooks II, Jonathan Gregory, Samuel Herenton, Keir Butts,
Micah Alexander, Avonte Thomas, and Taeyon Neal; therefore, be

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we congratulate the Providence St. Mel High School boys
basketball team, the Knights, on winning the 2019 Illinois High
School Association Class 1A State Championship and wish them
many more successful years; and be it further
RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
presented to the Knights' players, coaches, and managers as a
symbol of our congratulations.
