2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Colleen | ||||||
4 | Ann Davis, who passed away on May 22, 2019; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Colleen Davis was born in Chicago to Walter Davis | ||||||
6 | and Kathleen (Davis) Thomas on February 5, 1973; she attended | ||||||
7 | Irving Elementary School and Hawthorne Junior High School and | ||||||
8 | graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High School; she | ||||||
9 | attended Triton College in River Grove; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Colleen Davis most recently worked at the National | ||||||
11 | Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI), where she was a speaker | ||||||
12 | and community advocate for mental health; she received her | ||||||
13 | certification to become a Recovery Support Specialist from | ||||||
14 | NAMI; she was passionate about helping people and advocating | ||||||
15 | for mental health in the African American community; and

16 | WHEREAS, Colleen Davis was baptized at Christ Tabernacle | ||||||
17 | Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang with the Cherub | ||||||
18 | Choir; she later joined Neighborhood United Methodist Church; | ||||||
19 | she enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter Janiya, whom | ||||||
20 | she loved dearly; she never lost her zest for singing; in her | ||||||
21 | spare time, she would sing karaoke at different
locations in | ||||||
22 | the area with friends; and

1 | WHEREAS, Colleen Davis was preceded in death by her mother, | ||||||
2 | Kathleen Thomas; and

3 | WHEREAS, Colleen Davis is survived by her father, Melvin | ||||||
4 | Thomas; her daughters,
Kaylene Bellamy and Kiana Boyd; her | ||||||
5 | granddaughter, Janiya Carroll; her sister, Vanessa (Anthony) | ||||||
6 | Crittenden; her nephews, Quinton "Quinny" and Kendall "Kenny" | ||||||
7 | Sloan; her
dearest friend, Sophie Braddock; and numerous | ||||||
8 | uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives, and friends; therefore, be | ||||||
9 | it

10 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
11 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
12 | we mourn the passing of Colleen Ann Davis and extend our | ||||||
13 | sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
14 | and loved her; and be it further
