HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Veda
Laurette Cole-Brown of Chicago, who passed away on April 25,
2019; and
WHEREAS, Veda Cole-Brown was the second child of Charles
Cole and Geraldine; she was raised on the South Side of
Chicago, where she attended Farren and Ray Elementary School,
Hyde Park High School, and Huston-Tillotson University; and
WHEREAS, Veda Cole-Brown began dancing with the Sammy Dyer
School of Theatre at the age of ten and continued through her
high school years; she graduated to the semi-professional
junior Vashionetts and once performed at Club Delisa as a
back-up dancer for Sammy Davis Jr.; and
WHEREAS, Veda Cole-Brown was a deeply devoted mother to her
son, Kyle Amir Sneed, and cherished the life she lived with her
husband, Richard Ari Brown; and
WHEREAS, Before her retirement, Veda Cole-Brown was a
social worker with the Department of Children and Family
Services for 28 years; and

WHEREAS, Veda Cole-Brown had a huge presence in Chicago's
social landscape; she will be remembered for the compassion
with which she cultivated and maintained lifelong friendships
with people from all walks of life; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we mourn the passing of Veda Laurette Cole-Brown and extend our
deepest condolences to all who knew and loved her; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Veda Cole-Brown as an expression of
our deepest sympathy.
