HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Melissa Boratyn, a Chicago resident, was
3diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 23, and now, eight
4years later, continues her battle; and
5 WHEREAS, Melissa Boratyn met her husband, Jimmy Boratyn,
6while they were undergraduate students at Loyola University
7Chicago; and
8 WHEREAS, Melissa Boratyn and her husband directed and
9produced the film Ginger as a graduate school thesis project at
10DePaul University in Chicago; and
11 WHEREAS, At its premier in November of 2018, Ginger won
12Best of the Festival at the 10th Annual Lady Filmmakers
13Festival in Beverly Hills, California; and
14 WHEREAS, Ginger was also awarded the World Humanitarian
15Award at the 2018 Queens World Film Festival; and
16 WHEREAS, After a year of winning numerous awards at various
17film festivals, Ginger will be released to the public to
18achieve its intended goal of helping others; therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE

1HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2during the month of October 2019, National Breast Cancer
3Awareness Month, we commend the efforts of Melissa Boratyn,
4through her film Ginger, to help other young people battling
5breast cancer and to inspire all audience members with a
6message of hope, and we encourage all to promote awareness of,
7and to advocate for, women who are battling breast cancer; and
8be it further
9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to Melissa Boratyn as a symbol of our respect and
11esteem.
