SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
New Act

Creates the Cigarette Filter Plastic Ban Act. Provides that, beginning 2 years after the effective date of the Act, a cigarette shall not utilize a single-use filter containing cellulose acetate, another plastic material, or any non-biodegradable material.

1 AN ACT concerning cigarettes.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5Cigarette Filter Plastic Ban Act.
6 Section 5. Definitions. In this Act:
7 "Non-biodegradable material" means any substance that,
8when littered or discarded, is not readily changed to a
9harmless natural state by the action of bacteria.
10 "Single-use" means any product reasonably expected to be
11discarded by consumers after a single use.
12 Section 10. Prohibition on use of plastic. Beginning 2
13years after the effective date of this Act, a cigarette shall
14not utilize a single-use filter containing cellulose acetate,
15another plastic material, or any non-biodegradable material in
16this State.
