SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Earl L. Wilhold of Edwardsville, who
passed away on January 27, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Earl L. Wilhold was born November 19, 1928, in
Edwardsville to the late Oliver and Elsie (Henke) Wilhold Sr.;
he married Virginia L. Thompson on June 20, 1948, at Eden
United Church of Christ, and they recently celebrated their
60th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, He was a retired meat cutter and manager for 49
years; he worked for Kroger and later retired from Schnucks; he
was a member of Eden United Church of Christ, where he was a
member of the Eden Church Counsel and the Ushering and
Recreation Committees; he served his country in the United
States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict; and
WHEREAS, He was past commander of the Edwardsville American
Legion Post 199, a past commander of Madison-Bond County
American Legion, a member of the Last Man's Club of the
American Legion, and served as president and secretary of the
Senior Golf League at the American Legion Golf Course; and he
was a volunteer fireman for Edwardsville Fire Department
Company 1; and

WHEREAS, His passion was for golf, and he was instrumental
in building the American Legion Golf Course; he ran a golf pro
shop in his home for 30 years; he loved square dancing and
round dancing with the Hoe Downers for 40 years; and
WHEREAS, Earl Wilhold is survived by his wife, Virginia;
his daughter, Christy (husband, John) Dorsey; his three
grandchildren, Rebecca "Becky" Yarbrough and her husband, Bill
Jr., Elizabeth "Beth" Maue and husband, Jason, and Brian Dorsey
and fiancee, Katie Bartels; his three great-grandchildren,
Brittney and Brianna Yarbrough and Gabriella "Bella" Maue; and
his brother, Oliver Wilhold Jr. and wife, Maxine; therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
his family and friends, the passing of Earl Wilhold; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Earl Wilhold as a symbol of our
sincere sympathy.
