SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert A. Wetzel of Edwardsville, who
4passed away on January 21, 2013; and
5 WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel was born on August 26, 1937, in
6Highland to Arthur L. and Violet V. (Scheibe) Wetzel; he
7married Carol Kemmerer on August 20, 1960, at Grace Methodist
8Church in Waterloo, Iowa; he graduated from Edwardsville High
9School in 1955, Monmouth College in 1959, and the University of
10Wisconsin School of Banking in 1972; he was a staff sergeant in
11the Illinois National Guard; and
12 WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel worked at TheBANK of Edwardsville
13and moved his way up throughout the years; he started in 1960
14as a assistant cashier; he became vice-president and cashier in
151973, senior vice-president and cashier in 1976, and president
16in 1981, serving in that position for 22 years before retiring
17in August of 2004; and
18 WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel always took an active role in the
19betterment of his community; he served on the board of the ABA
20Federal Bankpac; he was active with Backstoppers-The Policeman
21and Fireman Fund of Saint Louis, the Civic Entrepreneurs
22Organization, the Deaconess Foundation board of directors, the

1Edwardsville Central Business District Development and
2Improvement Committee, and the Edwardsville Community School
3District #7, treasurer; he served as past president of
4Edwardsville Jaycees, past president of Edwardsville/Glen
5Carbon United way, director of the Illinois Department of
6Commerce and Economic Opportunity, and on the Madison County
7Bankers Federation Executive Committee, the Saint Louis Sports
8Commission, the State Treasurer's Banking Advisory Committee,
9and on the Board Trails West Council of the Boy Scouts of
10America; and
11 WHEREAS, He was currently serving on the board of directors
12of the Leadership Council of Southwestern Illinois where he was
13the past president, the board of directors of Lewis & Clark
14Community College, and as chairman of the Advisory Committee of
15Madison County Metrolink Feasibility Study; he was a member of
16the board of directors of Madison Mutual Insurance Company, the
17Regional Commerce & Growth Association, The Edwardsville
18Rotary Club, SIU-E Foundation, SIU-E School of Business
19Advisory Board, The Alliance of Edwardsville & Glen Carbon
20Executive Council, TheBANK of Edwardsville board of directors,
21and the University Park SIU-E board of directors; and
22 WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel has received numerous awards
23throughout the years including, the 100 Black Men of Alton
24Award for Outstanding Contributions and Support of Education,

1the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce Albert D.
2Cassens Award for Outstanding Achievement, the Anderson
3Hospital 7th Annual Founders Award, the Distinguished Eagle
4Scout Award, Edwardsville Rotary's International Service Above
5Self Award, the Leadership Council's 16th Annual Salute to
6Southwestern IL Award for Outstanding Leadership, the Monmouth
7College Distinguished Alumnus Award, the SIU-E Distinguished
8Service Award, the SIU-E Kimmel Award for Outstanding Community
9Service, and the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Lifetime Achievement
10award; he was a member of Eden United Church of Christ in
11Edwardsville; and
12 WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel was preceded in death by his parents
13and his brother, Ronald Wetzel; and
14 WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel is survived by his wife, Carol; his
15daughter, Andrea (Russell) Wetzel-Darbon; his son Scott
16(Kristi) Wetzel; his grandchildren, Brawley (Lee) Darbon,
17Madison Olivia Darbon, Corbin Reid Wetzel, and Reagan Kate
18Wetzel; his brothers, Tom (Alice) Wetzel, Carl (Donna) Wetzel,
19and David (Jessica) Wetzel; and many nieces, nephews, and dear
20friends; therefore, be it
21 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
23Robert Wetzel, and we extend our sincere condolences to his

1family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
2further
3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Robert Wetzel as an expression of
