SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Charles "Chuck" Cuda of McHenry, who
4passed away on January 27, 2017 at the age of 92; and
5 WHEREAS, Charles Cuda was born in Cicero, the youngest of
6eight children of Vaclav and Marie (Zverina) Cuda on August 19,
71924; he was raised and educated in Cicero where he was a
8starting guard for the State Champion Morton High School
9basketball team before graduating with the Class of 1942;
10following high school, he entered the United States Army Air
11Corps during World War II, where he served stateside as an
12instructor at bombardier school; following his military
13service, he met a young woman from his neighborhood who would
14become the love of his life, Anna Mae "Annie" Vyskocil; they
15married at Blessed Sacrament Rectory in Chicago on August 10,
161947; and
17 WHEREAS, Charles Cuda continued his education at Michigan
18State University, where he also played basketball while
19pursuing his degree in Business Education; after earning his
20Bachelor of Science, he landed his first teaching job at Howe
21Military School in Indiana; when the school year ended, he
22moved to McHenry, where he enjoyed the remainder of his
23teaching career with McHenry High School District 156; he

1continued his education by attending night school, earning a
2master's degree from Northern Illinois University; and
3 WHEREAS, Charles Cuda remarkably missed only six school
4days during his over 38-year distinguished career with District
5156; he coached golf for the entire 38 years with the district
6and also coached basketball and football for many years; he
7will be remembered as a dedicated teacher who influenced the
8lives of thousands of students throughout his long career;
9prior to retiring in 1989, he proudly served the district
10teaching Business Education and later was instrumental in the
11development and implementation of the Diversified Occupations
12program; he was involved in umpiring and refereeing throughout
13the area; during summers off from school in the 1960s and early
141970s, he worked as a cement finisher for Wm. Tonyan & Sons,
15using skills he learned as a young man from his father; and
16 WHEREAS, Charles Cuda enjoyed playing golf, racquetball,
17and ping-pong; he played softball for Bimbo's for many years,
18and enjoyed participating in activities at the Riverside Social
19Athletic Club; a fan of playing bridge for most of his life, he
20loved being involved in bridge clubs; he was a member of the
21American Legion Post 491 in McHenry; he especially enjoyed time
22spent at the family vacation home in Crivitz, Wisconsin, where
23he loved to go fishing and relax; and

1 WHEREAS, Charles Cuda was preceded in death by his parents;
2six brothers and one sister; and
3 WHEREAS, Charles Cuda is survived by his wife of 69 years,
4Annie; two sons, Frank (Ann) Cuda, and Steve (Annette) Cuda;
5and seven grandchildren, Andrew, Leigh, Jay, and Alex Cuda, and
6Elizabeth Cuda, Maria (Kevin) Hill, and Kathryn Cuda;
7therefore, be it
8 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Charles Cuda, and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
11friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Charles Cuda as an expression of our
14deepest sympathy.
