SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Roscoe Garrett of Lake Forest, who passed
4away on March 13, 2015; and
5 WHEREAS, Roscoe Garrett was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on
6July 9, 1923 to Logan T. and Rose (nee Bosch) Garrett; he spent
7his childhood in West Allis and Milwaukee, with an interlude of
82 years in Portland, Oregon; he graduated from West Allis
9Central High School in 1939 and married Jeanne Lucas on
10September 7, 1943; he served his country in the United States
11Army during World War II, fighting under General Patton during
12the Battle of the Bulge; he was awarded a Bronze Star for
13heroism in battle and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant while in
14Europe; he was able to begin his college studies while in the
15Army, attending the University of Maine and completed a
16Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at the
17University of Wisconsin, graduating cum laude in 1948; and
18 WHEREAS, Roscoe Garrett began work as an engineering
19draftsman at the Allen Bradley Corporation and enjoyed a
20successful career in engineering and business for the next 41
21years; he was the President and Chief Operating Officer of the
22Riley Corporation, a publicly listed company, for several
23years, and subsequently was the general manager of the same

1business under a series of parent companies, including US
2Filter, Ashland Oil, and Ametek; he retired from Ametek in
31989; and
4 WHEREAS, Roscoe Garrett and his wife were active in the
5Deerfield community; they were also active members of Holy
6Cross Catholic Church in Deerfield; they enjoyed many long-held
7friendships in Deerfield and were involved in several
8charitable organizations; and
9 WHEREAS, Roscoe Garrett was preceded in death by his wife
10of 67 years, Jeanne; his sister, Carol Denig; his daughter,
11Sally; his granddaughter, Maria; and his son, John "Jack"; and
12 WHEREAS, Roscoe Garrett is survived by his sons, Scott
13(Susan) and Paul (Sharon); his grandchildren, Brett (Maryam),
14Elizabeth Mettler (Matt), Alison, and Ben; and his
15great-grandchildren, Abigail and Logan; therefore, be it
16 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Roscoe Garrett, and extend our sincere condolences to his
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
21 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

2our deepest sympathy.
