2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Steve Stroud of Elgin, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | April 5, 2019; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Steve Stroud was born in Aurora to James and | ||||||
6 | Eunice (Rudolf) Stroud on November 23, 1942; he served in the | ||||||
7 | United States Army from 1960 until 1963; he married Laura in | ||||||
8 | 1992; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Steve Stroud worked as a foreign language teacher | ||||||
10 | and retired in 1993; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Steve Stroud was a noted historical researcher and | ||||||
12 | preservationist; well known for his passion for research into | ||||||
13 | old local homes and cemeteries, his interest in local history | ||||||
14 | was sparked by a book about the old, lost homes of Chicago; he | ||||||
15 | was the author of There Used to Be, a three-volume series about | ||||||
16 | the history and architecture of old homes in Elgin, and Silent | ||||||
17 | City: A History of Elgin's City Cemeteries; he created a | ||||||
18 | website that highlighted many of the city's historic bungalows | ||||||
19 | and was working on a second website to chronicle the lost homes | ||||||
20 | of the city; and

21 | WHEREAS, Steve Stroud served on the board of the Elgin |

1 | History Museum, where he volunteered three times a week and, | ||||||
2 | along with his wife, co-chaired the annual Bluff City Cemetery | ||||||
3 | walk; he also served on the design review subcommittee for the | ||||||
4 | city's heritage commission; he paid regular visits to the Elgin | ||||||
5 | Township Assessor's office, whose basement was his treasure | ||||||
6 | trove; he will be remembered as a tenacious and caring member | ||||||
7 | of the city who did a lot to advance Elgin's reputation; and

8 | WHEREAS, Steve Stroud was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
9 | his siblings, Michael Stroud and Patricia Stroud; and his | ||||||
10 | stepdaughter, Anne Beauregard; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Steve Stroud is survived by his wife, Laura; his | ||||||
12 | stepson, Scott Beauregard; his brother, Tom (Francine) Stroud; | ||||||
13 | his sister-in-law, Georgette Neumann; his grandchildren, | ||||||
14 | Gabriel and Rowan Beauregard and Jacqueline and Kaitlin | ||||||
15 | Graziano; his nieces and nephews; and his many friends; | ||||||
16 | therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
19 | Steve Stroud and extend our sincere condolences to his family, | ||||||
20 | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
22 | presented to the family of Steve Stroud as an expression of our |
