SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Chief Master Sergeant James R. "Bob"
4Flynn of Springfield, who passed away on June 4, 2020; and
5 WHEREAS, CMSgt Flynn was born in Springfield to James T.
6and Helen (Barrett) Flynn in December of 1934; he graduated
7from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in 1952; he
8married Betty Wagner on November 30, 1963; and
9 WHEREAS, CMSgt Flynn served in the Illinois Air National
10Guard as a member of the 183rd Tactical Fighter unit in
11Springfield; he retired as a Chief Master Sergeant after 37
12years of service; and
13 WHEREAS, CMSgt Flynn was devoted to his faith and was a
14member of St. Joseph's Parish in Springfield; he enjoyed
15bowling, playing pinochle with his friends, and watching
16sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals; he loved his dogs
17and bird; he was known for being quick with a joke or a witty
18retort; and
19 WHEREAS, CMSgt Flynn is survived by his wife of 56 years,
20Bertha M. "Betty" Flynn; his children, Sheri (Brian) McMillan,
21Jeff Flynn, Monty (Priscilla) Flynn, Catherine (Mike)

1Copeland, James A. Flynn, and Sherman (Dessa) Smith; his
2grandchildren, Amanda, Josh, Ben, Mackenzie, Madeline,
3Alexandra, Nicolas, Elizabeth, Haydn, and Oskar; his eight
4great-grandchildren; his siblings, Patricia (John, deceased)
5Richardson, Richard (Mary) Flynn, Timothy (Linda) Flynn,
6Sharon (Robert) Veara, John (Vickie) Flynn, Marjorie (Douglas)
7Norris, and Dennis Flynn; therefore, be it
8 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Chief Master Sergeant James R. "Bob" Flynn and extend our
11sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
12and loved him; and be it further
13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of James Flynn as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
