ENROLLED SENATE BILL No. 703

AN ACT to amend 2000 PA 274, entitled “An act to regulate the ownership, possession, and care of certain large carnivores; to prohibit the ownership and possession of certain large carnivores; to impose fees; to prescribe the powers and duties of certain governmental entities and officials and of certain veterinarians; and to prescribe penalties and provide remedies,” (MCL 287.1101 to 287.1123) by adding section 8a.

The People of the State of Michigan enact:

Sec. 8a. A person shall not import or attempt to import a large carnivore into this state unless all of the following requirements are met:

(a) Ownership and possession of a large carnivore in this state is authorized by this act.

(b) The person is issued a prior entry permit by the department. As used in this subdivision, “prior entry permit” means that term as defined in section 6 of the animal industry act, 1988 PA 466, MCL 287.706.

(c) An identification number is placed in the large carnivore by subcutaneous microchip. The identification number shall be recorded on the prior entry permit issued by the department under subdivision (b).

Enacting section 1. This amendatory act does not take effect unless Senate Bill No. 1236 of the 96th Legislature is enacted into law.

This act is ordered to take immediate effect.
