A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MAGNOLIA HEIGHTS SCHOOL CHIEFS BASEBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2013 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE ACADEMY AAA, DIVISION II CHAMPIONSHIP AND COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING HEAD COACH CHRIS MCMINN ON BEING SELECTED AS THE CLARION-LEDGER'S COACH OF THE YEAR.

     WHEREAS, the Magnolia Heights School baseball team finished the 2013 season with a perfect record of 37 wins and 0 losses; and

     WHEREAS, the Chiefs did very well in postseason play winning their second straight Academy AAA, Division II state title which completed one of the best seasons in Mississippi high school baseball history; and

     WHEREAS, Magnolia Heights was led by seniors:  Dalton Skelton, Jacob Billingsley, Kevin Barber, Jackson Pitts, Luke Latham, Colin Liles, Billy Eads, Adam Shackleford and Wesley Bolton who had the determination to win a state championship and go out on top; and

     WHEREAS, the Chiefs have been superbly coached by Head Coach Chris McMinn, who has broadened the Chiefs' knowledge of baseball and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, Coach McMinn has brought additional honor to himself and to Magnolia Heights by being selected as The Clarion-Ledger's Coach of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, Coach McMinn credits his father, Ronald "Runt" McMinn's stellar success as a coach as the inspiration for his career as a coach and for his ability to treat his players the same on and off the field while teaching them how to be fine players and young men; and

     WHEREAS, the Chiefs have developed a winning and cooperative spirit, a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and Coach McMinn to bring honor to Magnolia Heights School; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by such exemplary achievements as those of the Magnolia Heights baseball team and Coach McMinn:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Magnolia Heights School Chiefs baseball team and Coach Chris McMinn for their perfect season, for winning the 2013 Academy AAA, Division II State Championship and for Coach McMinn being named The Clarion-Ledger's Coach of the Year.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Magnolia Heights School, Coach Chris McMinn and be made available to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
