House Resolution 10

(As Adopted by House)

A RESOLUTION COMMEMORATING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MRS. TALLIE MAE CANNON JACKSON AND EXPRESSING SYMPATHY UPON HER PASSING.

WHEREAS, "To everything there is a season, and time to every purpose under the Heaven" and as such, Mrs. Tallie Mae Cannon Jackson's season has ended; and

WHEREAS, she was born on October 2, 1942, as the first child of the late Mr. George Moore and Ms. Lee Girtha Brown in Greenwood, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, she attended the public schools of Greenwood and graduated from Broad Street/Threadgill High School; and

WHEREAS, a God fearing Christian, she realized early in life that there was nothing better than knowing Jesus, which motivated her to join Locust Grove Baptist Church, where she was an active member for years before joining the Providence Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend Jessie Payne; and

WHEREAS, a true servant of God, she served in many capacities at the church, but her true passion was singing for the Lord, so she sang in the adult choir of the church until her health began to deteriorate; and

WHEREAS, she had a passion for children which was shown when she worked for the Leflore County School District at Amanda Elzy Elementary and Claudine Brown Elementary Schools; and

WHEREAS, she married the love of her life, John Edward Jackson, in 1976, and was the mother of four children; and

WHEREAS, to cherish her memory, she leaves her devoted husband, two sons, James and Edward, six sisters, five brothers, twenty grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the life of such a magnificent individual as Mrs. Tallie Mae Cannon Jackson, whose light radiated the presence of the Father, which is in Heaven, and whose presence will be sorely missed as she was the salt of the earth:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commemorate the life and legacy of Mrs. Tallie Mae Cannon Jackson and express sincere and deepest sympathy to her family and friends upon her passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. John Edward Jackson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
