A RESOLUTION COMMENDING REPRESENTATIVE DAVID NORQUIST FOR HIS LEGISLATIVE LEGACY AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

     WHEREAS, Representative David Norquist, an honored and cherished member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, will make 2011 his last legislative year when he retires; and

     WHEREAS, the Honorable David Norquist began his legislative service in 2005 after being elected in a special election by the citizens of District 28, which is composed of parts of Bolivar, Sunflower and Washington Counties, and was sworn into office on September 27, 2005, at the commencement of the 2005 Fifth Extraordinary Session of the Mississippi Legislature; and

     WHEREAS, he has utilized the wisdom and experience he has accrued over the years to guide him in his duties as Vice Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee and as a member of the Agriculture, Banking and Financial Services, Gaming, Judiciary A, Judiciary En Banc and Public Property Committees; and

     WHEREAS, born April 1, 1966, in Greenville, Mississippi, Representative David Norquist, driven by the values instilled in him by his parents, graduated from Cleveland High School, Delta State University and the University of Mississippi School of Law before beginning a successful career as an attorney; and

     WHEREAS, throughout the years, Representative Norquist has utilized his leadership skills in the community as an active member with the City of Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department, Mississippi Defense Lawyers Association, the Defense Research Institute and the American Bar Association; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Norquist is a strong man of the Catholic faith, and he has been supported in every endeavor embarked upon by his children:  Clayton, Mitchell and Reaves; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor one of our own, who has represented his district, as well as this legislative body, with honor and dignity:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Representative David Norquist for his legislative legacy and congratulate him upon the occasion of his retirement from the Mississippi House of Representatives.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative David Norquist and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
