Senate Bill 2230

AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 97-3-25, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO INCREASE THE MAXIMUM SENTENCE FOR A PERSON CONVICTED OF MANSLAUGHTER; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Section 97-3-25, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

     97-3-25.  Any person convicted of manslaughter shall be fined in a sum not less than Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00), * * * imprisoned in the county jail not more than one (1) year, or both, or committed to the custody of the Department of Corrections for not less than two (2) * * *, nor more than thirty (30) years.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2012.
