AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 19-25-74, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REQUIRE A COUNTY SHERIFF TO RECORD ON AN ANNUAL BASIS CERTAIN INFORMATION RELATED TO MEALS SERVED TO PRISONERS IN THE CUSTODY OF THE COUNTY JAIL; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 19-25-74, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
19-25-74. In any event,
regardless of which method in respect to the feeding of prisoners is selected
by the board of supervisors, the sheriff shall maintain a log, showing the name of each prisoner, the
date and time of incarceration and release, to be posted * * * by the tenth calendar day of each
month for the period spanning the preceding month, which shall record the
number of meals served to prisoners * * * on each * * * day, * * * and shall make
affidavit as to the correctness thereof and file the same monthly with the
board of supervisors. Such log shall remain on file with the board of
supervisors as other records of said board and shall be made available to the
State Department of Audit upon request. No claims for the cost or expenses of
feeding prisoners shall be approved by the board of supervisors for any month
unless and until such log for that month is filed.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2020.
