A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE CIVIC CONTRIBUTIONS OF FORMER ASHLAND MAYOR AND ALDERMAN BILLY J. TAYLOR ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, Billy J. Taylor, respected three-term Alderman for the City of Ashland, has announced his retirement from public office following many years of civic and charitable service to his community and state; and

     WHEREAS, Alderman Billy J. Taylor is one of the newest inductees into the Mississippi Municipal League's Hall of Fame.  Taylor began serving the Ashland area in an elected position in 1959 as a Justice Court Judge.  Since serving as Judge, Taylor has held public offices in the county and the city.  He served as Ashland's Mayor for four terms.  Two of those terms were before he served as a County Supervisor for two terms, the other two after.  After serving as Judge, Mayor and Supervisor, Taylor has been elected as an Alderman three times; and

     WHEREAS, Billy Taylor has held public office as follows:  Justice of the Peace, 1959 (served 1960-1963); Mayor of Ashland in a Special Election, December 1963, reelected to a full term in 1965; Benton County Board of Supervisors, District 1, 1979 (served two terms); Mayor of Ashland, 1989 (reelected 1993, served 1989-1995); Alderman, City of Ashland, 2001, reelected 2005, 2009 (served 2001-2013); and inducted into the Mississippi Municipal League Hall of Fame, 2012; and

     WHEREAS, he is a successful businessman having owned several local businesses.  He is presently serving on the Board of Directors, North Mississippi Primary Healthcare, United Community Action Committee; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we pay tribute to this most public spirited citizen of Mississippi whose enormous civic energy is a wonderful example to all public servants:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize the civic contributions of three-term City of Ashland Alderman Billy J. Taylor, and extend our congratulations to him and his family on the occasion of his retirement.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That this resolution be presented to Honorable Billy J. Taylor, forwarded to the Ashland Board of Aldermen, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
