A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE CIVIC CONTRIBUTIONS OF HOLLY SPRINGS THREE-TERM ALDERMAN AND LONGTIME EDUCATOR RUSSELL JOHNSON ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, Russell Johnson, respected three-term Alderman for the City of Holly Springs, has announced his retirement from public office following many years of civic, educational and charitable service to his community and state; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to his service on the Board of Aldermen, Russell Johnson served in the following capacities:  President of the Board of Directors of Marshall County Industry Development Authority, Member of the Board of Directors of Marshall County Habitat for Humanity, Member of Northwest Mississippi Officials Association, and Member of the Holly Springs Main Street; and

     WHEREAS, Russell Johnson was a professional educator for 44 years, serving in the following capacities:  1966-1992 Holly Springs School District:  W.T. Sims High School Industrial Arts Teacher/Coach, Holly Springs Intermediated School/Holly Springs High School Industrial Arts Teacher/Coach, and Director of Holly Springs Career Technical Center; 1992-2006 Memphis City School:  Exploring Technology Coordinator; and 2008-2012 Holly Springs School District:  Director of Holly Springs Career Technology Center; and

     WHEREAS, Russell received his Masters in Education from Mississippi State University and his AAA Administration Certification from the University of Mississippi.  He belonged to the following civic and benevolent organizations:  the Association for Career and Technical Education, the Mississippi Association for Career and Technical Education, the Tennessee Educators Association, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, and the Mississippi Municipal League; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson is married to Johnnie Ree Anderson and they have four children and six grandchildren.  He is an active member of Anderson Chapel of CME Church where he serves as Steward and Recording Steward; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we pay tribute to this most public spirited citizen of Mississippi whose enormous civic energy is a wonderful example to all public servants:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize the civic contributions of three-term City of Holly Springs Alderman Russell Johnson, and extend our congratulations to him and his family on the occasion of his retirement.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That this resolution be presented to Honorable Russell Johnson, forwarded to the Holly Springs Board of Aldermen and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
