A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE BEST WISHES OF THE MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE TO RUBY JEAN MCGEE KENNEDY OF LIBERTY, NEWTON COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, ON THE OCCASION OF HER 100TH BIRTHDAY ON FEBRUARY 1, 2020.

     WHEREAS, Ruby Jean McGee Kennedy was born on February 1, 1920, at the home of her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Turner Quincey McGee, in Hickory, Mississippi.  She attended public schools in Hickory, graduated in 1938, and attended East Central Community College.  She married Lee Roy Kennedy in 1938 and began her life on "the farm" in the Liberty Community in Newton County.  Ruby and Lee Roy raised two children, a son, Joe Kennedy, and a daughter, Lee Kennedy Waring.  Ruby taught them the importance of hard work, good education, serving God, and being a good neighbor; and

     WHEREAS, Ruby has been an active member of Liberty Baptist Church in Newton for her entire adult life.  She served as the Sunday School Superintendent, WMU Director, Sunday School Teacher, and the Church Treasurer for 25 years.  Ruby was involved in many of the local community clubs and served in many areas trying to revitalize the social and intellectual life of the community.  She was elected an Ageless Hero for Central Mississippi by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi in 2002 for her community involvement; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Kennedy was born when Woodrow Wilson was President of the United States of America and Theodore G. Bilbo was Governor of the State of Mississippi.  Ruby's life has spanned the administration of 18 United States Presidents from Woodrow Wilson to Donald Trump; and 26 Mississippi Governors from Theodore G. Bilbo to Tate Reeves.  This family icon has witnessed many historic events during her lifetime, including the Great Depression, World War II, and man's walk on the moon; and

     WHEREAS, Ruby is celebrating her 100th birthday on February 1, 2020, and she continues to show others the importance of Christian values and virtues at home and in the community.  Ruby is an inspiration to everyone she meets and we are grateful for the impact she has had, and will continue to have, on Liberty, Newton County and the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby extend the best wishes of the Mississippi Legislature to Ruby Jean McGee Kennedy of Liberty, Newton County, Mississippi, on the occasion of her 100th Birthday on February 1, 2020.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Ruby Jean McGee Kennedy and her family, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
