A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING MISSISSIPPI SENATOR TOMMY MOFFATT FOR THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF HIS CAREER IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE AND FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, Senator Tommy Moffatt has been a member of the Mississippi Senate since 1996.  He is Chairman of the Environmental Protection, Conservation and Water Resources Committee.  He is also a member of the Ports and Marine Resources; Appropriations; Investigate State Offices; Judiciary A; Oil, Gas and Other Minerals; and Public Utilities Committees; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Tommy Moffatt also began his term as Co-Chairman of The Energy Council on September 26, 2010, as members of The Energy Council unanimously elected him at the Council's Annual Meeting in his home state of Mississippi.  As Chairman of The Energy Council, he delivered a Keynote Address at the Joint Energy Forum at China Petroleum University-Beijing, discussing opportunities and challenges for energy cooperation between China and North America at the 5th International Forum in China's Energy Strategies; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Moffatt is a retired industry manager.  He and his wife, Bess, make their home in Gautier, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, in his lifetime of service, Tommy always remained a loyal friend who maintained strong convictions and dedication to treating people fairly and in a straightforward manner.  Tommy exemplified that generation of Americans who survived World War II and the Korean Conflict to protect, defend and rebuild America.  With an unflinching duty to public service and a commitment to making this world a better place, Tommy Moffatt will be missed by a host of friends and associates made during his service and he will be remembered as a leader in Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the long and distinguished career of public service of Senator Tommy Moffatt of Gautier, Mississippi, and extend our best wishes to Tommy and his family.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senator Moffatt, forwarded to the Board of Directors of The Energy Council and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
