A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING MISSISSIPPI SENATOR EZELL LEE FOR THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF HIS CAREER IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE AND FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, Senator Ezell Lee from Picayune, Mississippi, has represented the 47th District in the Mississippi Senate since 1992, which consists of Harrison, Jackson, Pearl River and Stone Counties.  Previously he was a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives from 1987 through 1991; and

     WHEREAS, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, Senator Lee is a longtime supporter of Mississippi Veterans and is Chairman of the Senate Veterans and Military Affairs Committee.  He was instrumental in the formation of the Legislative National Guard Caucus where he serves as Deputy Chairman.  Senator Lee recognized that the War on Terrorism has dramatically changed the focus and standing of the members of the Mississippi National Guard and formed this caucus to offer support to Guardsmen and their families; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Lee was born in Hancock, Mississippi.  He attended Pearl River Community College, William Carey College and the University of Southern Mississippi where he earned his master's degree, and he is a retired educator and coach.  Senator Lee is a longtime supporter of the local school system and the Pearl River Community College District; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Lee is a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Southern Legislative Association, the University of Southern Mississippi Alumni Association and is active in the Baptist Church.  He serves on the following Senate Committees:  Veterans and Military Affairs, Chairman; Appropriations; County Affairs; Investigate State Offices; Ports and Marine Resources; Public Utilities; and Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.  Senator Lee is an avid golfer; and

     WHEREAS, in his lifetime of service, Ezell has always remained a loyal friend who maintained strong convictions and dedication to treating people fairly and in a straightforward manner.  Ezell exemplified that generation of Americans who survived World War II and the Korean Conflict to protect, defend and rebuild America.  With an unflinching duty to public service and a commitment to making this world a better place, Ezell Lee will be missed by a host of friends and associates made during his service to the Senate and the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the long and distinguished career of public service of Senator Ezell Lee of Picayune, Mississippi, and extend our best wishes to Ezell and his family.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senator Lee, forwarded to the Board of Trustees of Pearl River Community College, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
