(As Adopted by Senate)

A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND SENATOR GARY JACKSON FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE.

WHEREAS, Senator Gary Jackson of French Camp, Mississippi, has announced that he will be retiring from the Mississippi Senate on June 30, 2020.  He has represented Senate District 15, which includes Choctaw, Montgomery, Oktibbeha and Webster Counties since 2004 (17 years).  In Gary Jackson, the citizens of District 15 have had effective representation from a dedicated public servant, pastor and residential appraiser; and

WHEREAS, Gary is serving this term as Chairman of the Senate Municipalities Committee, and has served as Chairman of the Local and Private Committee and Chairman of the Business and Financial Institutions Committee during his previous terms in office.  His Senate colleagues gave him a standing ovation when he announced his plan to step down.  Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hosemann noted that Senator Jackson ran unopposed for re-election last year.  "There is a reason for that," Lieutenant Governor Hosemann said in a statement.  "He is not afraid to take a position or stand up for his constituents, in a way which is respectful and thoughtful while remaining a leader."  Gary Jackson previously served under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Phil Bryant, where he led efforts aimed to restructure and improve the public school system in Oktibbeha County, improve public safety, and support his beloved Mississippi State University; and

WHEREAS, Gary Jackson is Pastor of Providence Baptist Church, and is a graduate of East Mississippi Community College and Mississippi State University.  His wife, Dianne, always accompanied him to Sessions of the Senate and was an inspiration to us all.  The couple have two sons, Corbett and David; and

WHEREAS, Senator Jackson's service has been marked by his commitment to success and recognized leadership, sound judgment, civility, courtesy and fairness.  He has set the highest standard in all of his many roles:  husband, father, pastor, businessman, statesman, community leader and leader in the Mississippi Senate, and as a true friend.  Gary's service honored both the Mississippi Senate and this great State that he loved and served:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and recognize Senator Gary Jackson, whose outstanding service enriched everyone with whom he was associated, and we wish Gary and his family much success in his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senator Gary Jackson and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
