A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING MISSISSIPPI SENATOR TOMMY DICKERSON FOR THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF HIS CAREER IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE AND FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, Senator Tommy Dickerson, a longtime Waynesboro attorney and four-term State Senator, has announced that he will not seek reelection.  Senator Dickerson has represented District 43 (consisting of George, Greene, Stone, and Wayne Counties) from 1993-2003 and from 2008 to the present; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Dickerson most recently served as Chairman of the Ports and Marine Resources Committee and he served on the following committees:  Congressional Redistricting, Vice Chairman; Elections, Vice Chairman; Legislative Reapportionment, Vice Chairman; Agriculture; Finance; Forestry; Highways and Transportation; and Judiciary, Division A.  Senator Dickerson's experience as a trial attorney brought a wealth of legal expertise to the Mississippi Senate, particularly during debate of bills relating to family law and criminal procedure; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Dickerson's education:  George County High School, Perkinston Jr. College, University of Southern Miss, and Mississippi College School of Law; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Dickerson is a member of the Rotary Club, Mississippi Trial Lawyers Association, Shriners, Chamber of Commerce, and Tree Farms of America; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Dickerson was born on November 2, 1945, in Pascagoula and is married to the former Marie Harrison.  They have two children, George and Katie.  He is of the Baptist faith; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Dickerson was affectionately known as "Two-Dog" in the Mississippi Senate (a reference to a famous Indian legend), and we are grateful for Tommy's legacy of service and friendship in the State Senate:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize the dedicated public service of Senator Tommy Dickerson (District 43) of Waynesboro, Mississippi, and wish Tommy much success in his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senator Dickerson and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
