A JOINT RESOLUTION honoring the life and memory of ernest hertford "e.H." Bishop, jr.

Whereas, Ernest Hertford "E.H." Bishop, Jr., was born on January 22, 1920, in Pantego, North Carolina, to Ernest H. Bishop, Sr., and Betty Elizabeth Judkins Bishop; and

Whereas, E.H. Bishop graduated from Pantego High School in 1938; and

Whereas, E.H. Bishop served his country in the United States Army during World War II, participating in campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, and Central Europe; and

Whereas, E.H. Bishop was wounded in action on July 5, 1944, earning the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and a Purple Heart; and

Whereas, E.H. Bishop was wounded in action again on December 11, 1944, and was awarded Oak Leaf Clusters for his Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart; and

Whereas, E.H. Bishop was active in his community, serving as a member of New Hope Church of Christ, a charter member of Pantego Ruritan Club, a former Boy Scout Master, a member of the Beaufort County Board of Education, and a member of the Green Sea Hunting Club; and

Whereas, E.H. Bishop was married to the former Cora Frances Canady for more than 61 years; and

Whereas, E.H. Bishop died Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at the age of 89; and

Whereas, E.H. Bishop is survived by three daughters: Maude E. Bishop, Gloria Bishop Williams and her husband Eddie Williams, and Mary Bishop Alligood and her husband Tommy Alligood; five grandchildren: Murphy Ernest Ratcliff, Jody Elizabeth Ratcliff, Bishop Edward Williams, Madison Jules Alligood, and Breanna Bishop Alligood; two great grandchildren: Morgan Marie Ratcliff and Hunter Bishop Ratcliff; Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

SECTION 1.  The General Assembly honors the memory of Ernest Hertford "E.H." Bishop, Jr., and expresses its appreciation for his service to his country.

SECTION 2.  The General Assembly extends its sympathy to the family of Ernest Hertford "E.H." Bishop, Jr., for the loss of a beloved family member.

SECTION 3.  The Secretary of State shall transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the family of Ernest Hertford "E.H." Bishop, Jr.

SECTION 4.  This resolution is effective upon ratification.
