A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT regarding professional leave policies for public school employees.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  Noncertified employees of the public school shall be allowed to take professional leave under the same State and local rules that currently govern professional leave for certified employees. These rules shall provide that if no substitute is required for a certified or noncertified employee taking professional leave, there shall be no deduction from the employee's salary for a substitute.

SECTION 2.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Public Instruction the sum of ten thousand dollars ($10,000) for the 2010‑2011 fiscal year to implement the provisions of this act.

SECTION 3.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2010.
