A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to appropriate funds to the board of governors of the university of north carolina to be used to plan expansion of the medical schools at east carolina university and the university of north carolina at chapel hill, and to plan expansion of the medical and research partnership between the university of north carolina at chapel hill and the university of north carolina at charlotte.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Board of Governors of The University of North Carolina the sum of five million dollars ($5,000,000) for the 2010‑2011 fiscal year to be used to plan the expansion of the medical schools at East Carolina University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and to plan the expansion of the medical and research partnership between the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  The funds appropriated by this act shall be allocated as follows:

(1)        $2,000,000 to be allocated to East Carolina University to plan the expansion of its medical school.

(2)        $2,500,000 to be allocated to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to plan the expansion of its medical school.

(3)        $500,000 to be allocated to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte to plan the expansion of the medical and research partnership that it shares with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2010.
